This lecture will provide instruction on methods of tracheostomy airway clearance such as suctioning; use of medications such as bronchodilators, steroids, and mucolytics; and use of bronchial hygiene modalities, such as chest physical therapy, IPV, HFCWO Vest, and the Cough Assist device.
This lecture will review the proper technique and supplies needed for suctioning, how to prevent or minimize complications while performing suctioning, as well as reviewing what complications can occur as a result of suctioning. This lecture will also discuss the assessment of secretions while suctioning and indications of infection and other concerns.
