This lecture will acquaint you with various reasons that a child needs a tracheostomy related to airway obstruction that may be congenital or acquired. These reasons may affect the care requirements and safety of the child. This lecture will also discuss a variety of tracheostomy tubes that may be used for children. Because a child can get a tracheostomy at any age, the lecture will end with some of the developmental issues that may be encountered when caring for a child with a tracheostomy.
