Requirements

The requirements to successfully complete the UW PPC traineeship are incorporated in each trainee's individualized learning plan.

  • Completion of the online, three-credit graduate course, "Interdisciplinary Care of Children with Special Health Care Needs" (can be taken as a special student if not enrolled at UW-Madison)
  • Participation in clinical activities at the American Family Children's Hospital
  • Experiences at community-based clinical sites
  • Participation in trainee tutorials and online learning modules
  • Completion of an advocacy project and presentation
  • Completion of a capstone project and presentation
  • Completion of a family mentoring experience
  • Participation in on-going supervision & mentoring with UW PPC faculty

Trainees are also required to complete a final leadership project (capstone). Opportunities for trainee projects are varied and can be tailored to the interests of the individual. Past trainee projects have included the following:

  • Participation in the development of an asthma outreach clinic in an underserved urban setting.
  • Creation of an online, interactive continuing education program.
  • Development and marketing of a program aimed at providing a coordinated transition from pediatric to adult care.
  • Development and coordination of a needs assessment to determine interest in family involvement for parents of children with Cystic Fibrosis.
  • Enhancing collaborative relationships with other MCHB programs in Region V including UW LEND, University of Minnesota, and the University of Illinois-Chicago School of Public Health.
