Pediatric Tracheostomy and Ventilator Care

Becki Tribby & Candace DreierIn this lecture, we will be discussing the emergency care of the child with a tracheostomy tube or who is ventilator dependent.  Types of emergencies include tracheostomy tube obstruction, accidental decannulation, and inability to replace the tracheostomy tube.   This lecture will discuss how the nurse can prevent these unexpected emergencies by being prepared.  Being prepared is the first step to preventing an emergency.   Being able to respond to an emergency is essential and life saving for the child with a tracheostomy tube or ventilator dependent.  This lecture will emphasize the interventions and response needed to respond to these emergencies
